South of Varna a minor road leads to Kamchiya (The Longoza, Nature Reserve), where the river of the same name widens into a big lagoon before flowing into the sea. A small picturesque resort spreads along the wooded river banks. Kamchia resort is in the immediate vicinity of the Black Sea. The beaches are wide, covered with sand dunes. The climate is pleasant. The nearby 500 hectares of nature reserve, Longoza, is an area of marsh and forest with dense almost tropical undergrowth. Ancient trees with a variety of climbers interwoven amongst them form a canopy. This is a typical deltaic formation, which, in spring, is regularly flooded, inundating a huge area. Here there are pelicans, kingfishers and water birds of all kinds.
A cozy little town named Obzor, appropriate for family tourism, is situated at a point roughly midway between Varna and Bourgas from the hilly wooded terrain into a brief open coastal stretch. Despite the town's convenient location and six-kilometer long sandy beach (the largest between Golden Sands and Sunny Beach), this remarkably pleasant spot is surprisingly uncrowded even during peak season.
